thanksgiving thoughts

Did you ever have to sit at the kids table growing up? I remember back to my eating thanksgiving at my grandmother’s and grandfather’s house the kids would crowd around a small coffee table, there would be at least 6 of us eating our turkey and mashed potatoes. I can remember the smell of the food coming from the kitchen, the sound of laughter and talking. I can still see how all the windows would fog up from the cold outside combined with the humidity from the kettle on the oil burning stove, the number of people in their tiny house. Those were amazing times, these memories priceless, the feelings of love and joy, the laughter, the food.
Both sets of my grandparents have passed away, now my aunt and uncles are grandparents themselves hosting their children and their children’s children. My brother will be spending thanksgiving with his in-laws. I honestly can say I miss those family meals. November 18th we’ll be having out church thanksgiving meal, this brings a flood of those same feelings I experience as a kid. But you know we now live in a society where extended families don’t get together. That is why I think things like this the church does is so important. For many people, my family included, the church is their family. One day I hope my daughters will sit back and tell stories of the “good old days” their “family” meeting for a huge meal in a borrowed church building. But I hope this not just for my daughters but for others, others who have no family except the church family. And I pray that NBCC will always be a place where people can find a seat at the table! A place where they will fill totally loved. I hope on November 18th you’ll be there and you’ll bring someone that needs to feel this same kind of love.Oh, and make sure you sign up. . . or you’ll be sitting at the kids table
