Last Sunday the c20 group went down to work with PIN ministries. Which you know is the homeless ministry that the college group volunteers at on the second Sunday of the month and we as a church have helped. I was talking to one of the volunteers who what helping distribute clothing and I want to share a bit of our conversation.
Before I tell you that I want you to know that each Sunday there are at least 4 different things that happen at PIN. First there is a team of nurses and at least one doctor who volunteers their time to give anyone who shows up basic medical treatment, secondly there is a team of volunteers who pass out what clothing they have for the week, socks, underwear, shoes, coats, gloves or hats. Like I said whatever they have to give they give. These people in the clothing distribution area work with these people to find out what exactly they need and do their best to meet them the third thing that happens is ministry! Those who volunteer in a regular basis hug and touch the shoulder of those there and show in a mighty way that God loves them. The forth thing that happens is everyone receives a plate of hot food and a bag lunch for later. And there is more that goes on there probably more that I know.
Last Sunday I met John, he appeared to be in his early fifties, he was such a happy and pleasant man, he told me that he just got a job at Wendy's and was hoping that they had pair of black slacks. He said he had one pair about if he had two he could wash one and not have to worry about them being dry when he went to work. I'm not sure how or why John became homeless or why he needed PIN but he was there. I'm not sure if he was able to get the black pants or not, but I did notice that he was holding a heavy winter coat.
That finally brings me to what I want to brag about, as I spoke to the Mark the volunteer, he said something that just made me so proud, he said that over the last few weeks they've had enough coats that they had extra left each week. He said that normally this time of year that each week they run out of coats. Or they have none at all to give. Over the last 5 weeks we as NBCC have given over 150 coats and jackets, and I want you to know that your sacrifice and service is being seen and appreciated! In the Message Bible Matthew 5:13 goes like this "Let me tell you why you are here. You're here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth"
I'm so proud that New Beginning is taking that to heart, that we are bring the "God-favors to this earth" by sharing and loving homeless people. But the exciting part to me is this . . . "you ain't seen nothing yet" I believe in the coming weeks, months and years that NBCC will do greater and greater things, that we will be a church that brings hope to the hopeless, love to the loveless, friendship to the friendless and most important God to the lost. Have a Merry Christmas and continue to pray for NBCC and its leaders.
